Are you starting to see wrinkles, fine lines, or crow’s feet around your eyes and forehead, or laugh lines around your mouth? Botox injections target these unsightly lines to help create a smoother, more youthful complexion. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments for creases, as well as a possible remedy for muscle disorders, Botox treatment has earned the satisfaction of many patients.
Used both medically and cosmetically, Botox injections target areas of the face to temporarily cause muscle paralysis. The injections are formulated from a hardened protein called botulinum toxin A, which forms naturally in the body. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve cells from transmitting commands to the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and age lines. When these muscles receive no signal to contract, they relax, thus smoothing the skin and resulting in a younger appearance. Once botulinum toxin A is injected beneath the skin, it naturally dissolves on its own over time. After procedures, the targeted skin looks fuller, more relaxed, and radiates a youthful glow.
What Can I Expect From a Typical Botox Procedure?
Patients are relatively comfortable during the procedure, which takes about 10 minutes. You won’t need anesthesia or other numbing drugs. The protein OnabotulinumtoxinA is injected into targeted facial muscles with a fine needle. The area may become red and bruised, but positive *results usually show up 3 -10 days after the procedure. A treatment lasts anywhere from 3 months to 6 months.
Botox will not treat wrinkles caused by gravity or sun exposure.
*Results will vary per patient.

What Happens After the Injections? Aftercare Instructions
Try to exercise your treated muscles for the first 24-36 hours after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting). This helps to work the treatment into your muscles. Although this may help your procedure outcome, it will NOT impact your treatment negatively if you forget to do this.
- Do NOT get a facial and don’t rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment.
- Do NOT lie down for three hours after treatment. No strenuous exercise until the following day. Avoid any exposure to a sauna, hot tub or tanning for four hours. This will prevent your blood pressure from rising and thus minimize the risk of bruising after treatment.

- Be assured that tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours after your treatment. There is a small risk of bruising. If this occurs, do not worry since it will only be temporary and can easily be covered up with makeup. Any little bit of bruising may last up to one week.
- After Botox is placed into the targeted muscles, the weakening effect gradually begins anywhere from 3–7 days and is not complete for two weeks. Therefore, optimal *results are not seen for at least two weeks.
*Results will vary. - Botox will last approximately *3-4 months. However, if you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended, the duration of each treatment result may last longer than four months in conjunction with product.
*Results will vary.
Are There Any Side Effects to Botox™ Injections?
